SSBA Education Scholarships

Deadline: August 31

The Saskatchewan School Boards Association will now be awarding two $2500.00 scholarships to Saskatchewan students graduating from high school: one for a student entering university and one for a student entering a technical institution. Previously, the scholarship amounts were $1000.00. The application deadline is August 31.

Canada World Youth

Interested in a unique way to spend a "gap" year between high school and post-secondary education?

Canada World Youth offers various programs for youth, ages 17 to 29 who are interested in participating in international educational experiences in Canada and in Africa, Asia, Ukraine and Latin America.

In some cases, CWY can help participants gain academic credit earned through participation. Projects include work related to community development, health, social services, the environment and gender equity.

Are you interested in registering at SIAST (Kelsey, Wascana, Palliser or Woodlands campuses) in the future? If so, you can take advantage of this new service. Sign up for a "My Choice" account and you can get personalized information about open houses, virtual tours, career assessments and more detailed program information not accessible from the main SIAST site.

Competitive Entrance Awards, University of Saskatchewan

Deadline: February 15
Competitive Entrance Awards are based on academic achievement, financial need, and contributions to school and community life. These awards also recognize particular backgrounds, acknowledge contributions to certain clubs, and reward achievement in music or athletics. Competitive Entrance Awards are available to:
-students proceeding directly from high school to university; and
-students who have been out of high school for one or more years and have less than 18 credit units transferable to a program of study at the University of Saskatchewan.
Each student can receive payment of one centrally-administered U of S entrance award (including many Competitive Entrance Awards). If eligible to receive multiple awards, students will be contacted to confirm which award they will be accepting. Students can receive additional awards administered at the college/department level or from an external source. Self-declared St. Thomas More (STM) students may be eligible for additional awards and will be contacted when the STM awards application becomes available (usually in August).

Geomatics Program Reinstated at SIAST

Do you want the outdoors as part of your office? Do you enjoy using computers and working with technology? Did you know that Geomatics technologists are well paid in Saskatchewan and in-demand? Opportunities are expanding, the field is growing, the profession needs you. Due to retirement, turnover and expanding opportunities, there are a number of currently available job openings with more openings in the near future.

Saskatchewan Collaborative BScN Program

The Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) program is offered jointly by the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) and the University of Regina.
As a student you will begin your nursing education, including opportunities to work directly with patients, in Year 1. You will prepare for the future of health care by taking innovative courses in areas such as health informatics and Aboriginal health.
When you graduate, you’ll receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. You’ll be ready to make a real difference in your patients’ lives and work as a valuable member of a health care team that includes physicians, paramedics, social workers and therapists.

Lakeland Academic Excellence Scholarships

Deadline: June 30

Academic Excellence Scholarships go to new students enrolled in University Transfer, Environmental Sciences, Business or Educational Assistant programs who had a Grade 11 average between 85 and 100 percent. Depending on the average, students can receive up to $3500.

CIC Awards for Students of Aboriginal Heritage

Up to $20 000 us available at Lakeland College to students of Aboriginal heritage through the Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan. Awards are granted $5000 per year up to a maximu of four years o study.

To be eligible, students must apply and be accepted for full-time studies in the fall of 2011 in Business, Heavy Oil Operations/Fourth Class Power Engineering, Environmental Studies or Office Education.

Saskatchewan Agriculture Student Scholarship

Deadline: February 1, 2011

Are you a Grade 12 student in Saskatchewan?
Do you plan to take agriculture-related post-secondary courses beginning in the fall of 2011? Are you preparing for an exciting career in agriculture?
If you answered yes to all of the above, apply for the Saskatchewan Agriculture 2010-11 Student Scholarship worth $1,000.
Here's what you need to do:
Write a 500-word essay; or
Submit a three-minute video essay

Address one of the following two topics:
The future of agriculture in Saskatchewan over the next 10-15 years.
Agriculture as a way to solve problems facing the world (for example: food shortages, health problems, environmental concerns, etc.)

New Business Programs at Lakeland College

Beginning in the fall of 2011, students enrolled in Lakeland's Business diploma program will have five distinct majors to choose from for their second year of studies. These are: Accounting, Appraisal and Assessment, General Route, Marketing, and Small Busines and Entrepreneurship.

After completing the Business Diploma program, students can transfer into Athabasca University's Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Management programs offered at the Lloydminster Campus.

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship

Deadline: January 31, 2011
Earth Day Canada and Toyota Canada Foundation have established an annual scholarship to acknowledge and financially reward graduating Canadian high school students who have achieved academic excellence and distinguished themselves through environmental community service.
What is the Value of this Scholarship?
The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program consists of 20 awards of $5 000 each. Awards will be granted in five geographical regions:
• Atlantic Canada • Québec • Ontario • Western Canada/Northwest Territories/Nunavut • British Columbia/Yukon
A national winner, selected from the 20 regional winners, will receive an additional Toyota Earth Day Scholarship National Prize including a Panasonic notebook computer and an all expense paid trip to Toronto for the National Award Ceremony.

SIAST Application Deadline for High-Demand Programs

February 15 - is the deadline to apply for the following designated high demand programs at SIAST:

Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology
Dental Hygiene
Medical Laboratory Technology
Medical Radiologic Technology
Power Engineering Technology (effective for the 2011 intake)
Practical Nursing (effective for the 2011 intake)

These programs use a different program than the regular, first-qualified first admitted programs.

Concordia College (AB) Information

Concordia College is an accredited liberal arts institution located in Edmonton offering 26 undergraduate degrees in Arts, Education, Environmental Health, Management and Science, as well as two graduate degrees.

A "student for a day" program will take place at Concordia on March 5, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Students applying for admission by April 1 are eligible for scholarships including the competitive President's Leadership Scholarship, worth approximately $30 000.
