Terry Fox Humanitarian Award

February 1st - deadline for application for the Terry Fox Humanitarian Awards.
Award recipients must meet the following criteria:
Involvement in voluntary humanitarian work.
Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.
Undergraduates studying towards their first university degree or diploma at a Canadian post-secondary institution in Canada.
Maintain a satisfactory academic standing and continued involvement in voluntary humanitarian and community work.
Students are eligible to receive the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award until they have received their first university degree (for a maximum of four years), provided they have maintained a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Lakeland College. University of Saskatchewan Competitive Entrance Award

Saskatchewan Youth Awards

Nominations for the Saskatchewan Honours and Awards Program are now being accepted. Saskatchewan citizens between the ages of 15 and 24 are eligible for nomination. Individuals are nominated for projects or achievements they were involved in for up to one year prior to the nomination. Criteria include a broad range of endeavours such as leadership, volunteerism, innovation, artistics or cultural accomplishments, academic excellence, athletics and outstanding personal achievements.

Pearson College Scholarship Opportunity 2007

February 15 - deadline for applications to Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific in British Columbia (for students completing Grade 11 in June, 2007). Lakeland College - Counsellor's Update

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program 2007

Deadline - January 31, 2007 - The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program encourages and rewards graduating high school students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities and academic excellence. These scholarships are offered to students entering their first year of post-secondary education in the discipline of their choice.

Fifteen awards of $5000 are offered annually, to be applied directly towards tuition, books, room and board or other educational expenses for the first year post-secondary full time studies in Canada.

The Wood Manufacturing Council

The Wood Manufacturing Council is Canada's human resources sector council for the advanced wood products processing industry. It works with governments, industry, educational institutions and other interested parties to develop the work force for Canda's wood manufacturing industry.

King's University College News - New Programs

The King's University College is a Christian university located in Edmonton. It offers fully accredited degrees in the arts, science, music, commerce and education. This year they have added two music after degrees. The first is a one-year Performer's Certificate and the other is a one-year Artist's Diploma.

Burger King Scholars 2007

Deadline December 15 - Awards are $1,000 each and may be used for educational expenses during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. In 2007, approximately 700 scholarships will be awarded throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Applicants must:
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
  • Work part-time an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (unless individual circumstances prevents the student’s involvement).
  • Demonstrate participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Receive written nomination and signature from a school official and an employer recommendation (neither of whom is related to the student).

What is Engineering?

Application Deadline - October 30 - Grade 12 students, accompanied by one student advisor are invited to learn about the Engineering profession and the two schools of Engineering in Saskatchewan. Canada World Youth

With Canada World Youth, teams of 18 young people from different cultures spend a total of six months away from their homes, living together for 3 months in a Canadian community and three months in a community in one of Africa, Asia, the Carribbean, Eastern Europe or Latin America. Programs generally start in late August and end in March. Eligible participants are between 17 and 24 years of age, Canadian citizens, in good health, open-minded and flexible and highly motivated.

CWY also offers more speicalized programs for people who meet specific requirements. In addition they offer Global Learner Programs, which are shorter and carreied out in partnership with schools and community organizations.

House of Commons Page Program

Deadline: Monday, December 4 - House of Commons Pages are selected from high schools across Canada every year. They serve the House of Commons while beginning their studies at a university in the National Capital Region. The University of Ottawa offers a second year three credit political science course between September and April for House of Commons pages.

A salary of #10 800 is paid to pages throughout their working year. They work for 15 hours/week and their work schedule is coordinated with their university schedule. Candidates must be Canadian students or permanent residents; be graduating in 2006 to begin university studies in 2007; have an overall academic average of at least 80%; have a superior knowledge of both official languages and be accepted to a university in the National Capital Region.

New Program - Lakeland College

Lakeland College is now partnering with the University of Calgary to offer a Bachelor of Social Work in Rural and Aboriginal Communities. Courses are offered in a series of "learning circles," which means that students do not have to take them in any particular order. Regina Entrance Scholarships

For students currently attending high school:

On or before June 15 - The entrance scholarship average is based on the highest final marks of 20-level or 30 level courses taken prior to or during the 1st semester of grade 12.

After June 15 - only final marks of 30-level couses are used to calculate the scholarship average.

Centennial Merit Scholarships - for students entering the U of R, Campion, Luther, or First Nations University who are entering directly from a Saskatchewan high school and who have an entrance scholarship average of 93%-94.99%. These students must be registered in a minimum of 12 credit hours in the semeester in which the scholarship is paid. This 93% average will be lowered, in descending order, until funds are exhausted.

The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres (SARC) has launched a campaign that will have lasting benefits for people who work with persons with intellectual disabilities. All Roads Lead to U – University of Alberta Discovery for high school students, parents and teachers outside the Greater Edmonton Area (September 29 and 30, 2006).The Friday program features graduate student research presentations and a pizza party. The Saturday schedule includes a student panel, pancake breakfast with the chancellor, as well as the open house described above. All students are eligible for a $50 travel grant to attend this.
